If you’ve ever driven past the towering stone exterior on Meridian Street, you’ve seen the Scottish Rite Cathedral. Its architecture feels like a piece of Europe dropped right into the middle of Indianapolis. But once you step inside, you’re in the hands of Scottish Rite Events—the dedicated team that transforms this historic landmark into a collection of stunning, connected wedding spaces.
Let’s take a walk through what your day could look like, from the first “I do” to the final song.
The Ceremony: Setting the Stage
The team has curated specific tiers to help you visualize how your ceremony and reception will flow together based on your guest count. These aren’t just separate rooms; they are designed to work in together so your entire wedding stays under one roof. The beauty of these historic rooms is their versatility; while some couples have a traditional flow in mind, every major space can be tailored to host your ceremony as well.
The Intimate Classic (Tier 1)- for those keeping their circle close, Tier 1 is a perfect fit for up to 130 guests. You might start with your ceremony in the Lodge Room, then see the day naturally transition into the Center Lobby and South Lounge for a reception that feels polished and personal.

The Full Experience (Tier 2)- if you are planning for a larger crowd of up to 350 guests, Tier 2 offers the most expansive experience. You can host your ceremony in the Theater before moving up to the Balcony and into the Ballroom for a reception that feels storied and classic. It is also common to see the Ballroom itself transformed into a stunning ceremony site, offering a different way to experience the architecture.

The Versatile Suite (Tier 3)- for a middle ground of up to 200 guests, Tier 3 provides a balanced and elegant layout. This option lets you utilize the South Lounge for the start of your party before moving into the Balcony and Ballroom areas for dinner and dancing.

The Grand Hall- if your vision is focused entirely on a large-scale celebration, the Grand Hall is the go-to. It can host up to 650 guests for a party that is sure to be memorable. Though often used for receptions, the Grand Hall is a truly versatile space that has served as a breathtaking ceremony space for couples with a large guest list.

The Finer Details
If you hear their team mention a GOBO, don’t worry—it’s just a custom light stencil that projects your monogram or a pattern onto the dance floor for a personal touch. You can also add uplighting which are small lights placed on the floor to wash the walls in a soft glow that matches your wedding colors. Other optional touches include a piano rental (tuning included!) or even an organ rental if you are using the Theater.
To lock in your date at this historic spot, the venue requires a signed contract and 50% of the venue fees upfront. For a Saturday ceremony and reception, the rental fees range from $3,000.00 to $7,500.00. There is also a required security fee and a damage deposit. The damage deposit is refunded after the event, pending no major damage to the building.
