A Rooftop Wedding Rooted in Two Cultures
Shivangi + Jacob had plenty of influences to pull from: her Indian heritage, his American background, a shared love of hiking and travel, and the downtown Indianapolis neighborhood they call home. Instead of keeping any of those pieces separate, they found ways to let them overlap.
Their ceremony combined Hindu and Western traditions, with a baraat, floral garlands, and rituals around the sacred flame alongside personal vows. Shivangi wore a lehenga with henna while Jacob wore a Jodhpuri suit, later changing into a white gown and tux. Indian appetizers and fusion dishes made it onto the menu, and family and friends joined in choreographed dances during the reception.
Then there were the details that were completely Shivangi + Jacob. Tables were named for national and international parks they had visited together, paired with photos from their travels. A national park-inspired “Welcome to Our Adventure” sign carried the idea onto the rooftop at JPS Events at Regions Tower, overlooking the city just steps from their home. JPS also had a hand in nearly every part of the setting, from the florals, décor and rentals to catering and bartending, bringing all of those different influences together in the space.
Two moments ended up standing apart from everything else. Hearing each other’s vows for the first time, they realized they had independently written about many of the same things they valued in their relationship and wanted for their future. And after taking dance lessons and practicing in their backyard, they finally got their first dance in front of everyone. With their live band playing and the city around them, they said it still felt like just the two of them.
Their biggest planning takeaway was the difference the right planner can make, and for them, that was Jean of Blue Llama Events. They named Jean as their favorite vendor, crediting her and her team with making the entire planning experience feel smooth and easy. More importantly, they felt like she really listened, learning their likes, dislikes and the kind of support they needed. By the wedding day, Shivangi + Jacob could simply enjoy it without having to think about the details. As they put it, they’d recommend her “in a heartbeat.”
